People who write these articles need to go to a warzone and see what widespread destruction and collapse of society is really like. There is no water supply, no electricity, no food and no co-ordinated help. In the first weeks of such a collapse millions of desperate people will be pouring out of the cities and into rural areas.

There is no water supply, no electricity, no food

Katrina was like that. I have never before and never again experienced life with total infrastructure collapse like that. Although there was plenty of water everywhere, it wasn't clean water. Nothing open, not supermarkets or gas stations. There was no fuel to get anywhere even if you could avoid flooded streets. No liquor stores.

no co-ordinated help

There's actually a lot of help that gets organized here during natural disasters in my area, not sure it'll be there if the SHTF, but it disastrously floods fairly often here. Lots of practice.

Yeah and that was very localized. Imagine a global collapse.
