There's a few problems: lack of socialization, no longer having school as a babysitter, the child never leaving "school" (school work every waking hour for parents who go overboard teaching), and of course that parents aren't necessarily any good at being educators.

They come home with whackadoodle far left ideologies from their teachers and you just have to work them through it to find a more moderate, adult position.

I was essentially unschooled after fourth grade. I'm not advising anyone do that, but once I could read and write and had access to the internet, I don't think school does much of value besides socialization. In fact a lot of people are miserable and bullied at school. I didn't have any problems with college besides drinking too much and burning myself out at work and thus failing, but it had nothing to do with not being educated enough for it.
