It's not really "secret", the landlord was just too lazy to fix the wall and just put a mirror over the hole, thinking no one would notice. What would be really creepy (and probably illegal), though, is if it was a one-way mirror.

I cannot imagine what sparked someone to leave an apartment in the NYC area unused.

If you re-watch the video closely: you can see it's in bad shape. Maybe they just couldn't afford repairs?

Well, I am no expert. This is in the NYC area, right? An apartment there could be making someone some money. But it is not my area of expertise.

I'm no expert, but I do know that repairs can get very costly very fast.
