And people think China is going to be the next world leader. Their society just doesn't lend itself to innovation. In 2018 only 5% of Chinese applicants filed foreign counterpart applications. By comparison, 80% of U.S. applicants filed foreign counterpart applications.. Only a small amount of their patents are worth filing overseas, China subsidizes them so there's a lot of junk patents only filed in the country.
