It's not misleading just because you don't know what an Inspector General is...

I perfectly well know what an inspector general is. I also know what the US Surgeon General is. I know what the US Attorney General is. I know what the US Postmaster General is. I also know there is no "US Inspector General."

I added "US" to clarify, because not everyone is from the US. It's the inspector general of the US. Come on, man.

There is no "inspector general of the US." No such thing. Never has been such a thing.

"US" isn't part of the job title, it's a descriptor of the location of the Inspector General, because other countries have Inspector Generals too.

That is the thing about writing, isn't it? The reader can only see what you wrote, not what you were thinking when you wrote it. Enjoy your day.

You're "splitting hairs".
split hairs means to argue about very trivial differences or unimportant details. When someone is splitting hairs, their arguments are pointless and frivolous. Sometimes splitting hairs is much the same as being pedantic.

I am simply pointing out that the headline is misleading. We can discuss if this was intentional or unintentional. In these days of sensationalist headlines, i suspect the former.
