That's a hybrid with the Chinese chestnut. I would not call that an american chestnut it's not sure they will grow as large because that would take more than a persons life time.

There is an attempt to give the American chestnut to immunity to the blight with some genetic engineering, but the goverment is prevent release said trees at the moment.

No doubt many (most?) are hybrids.

However, I'm fairly confident (not certain) some purebred american chestnut trees are being raised for species revival.
