Probably because they can read the polls.
https://www.nbcnews.com/meet-the-press/meetthepressblog/maga-movement-widely-unpopular-new-poll-finds-rcna81200
The MAGA movement is seen positively by 24% of Americans and negatively by 45%. It is more unpopular than Trump, than Republicans, than Democrats, than Biden, than BLM.

imagine thinking public opinion polls are to measure and not to influence opinions

They can be for either. Often, though, they're used to figure out what kind of attack ad will be most effective.

The crackpot is totally out to lunch.
He's an election denier.
He thinks the bible speaks univocally. And he thinks it speaks on his opinion on LGBTQ+ (parts of it are against homosexual insertive sex, but there is no concept of homosexual amongst the writers) and abortion (which it doesn't fucking mention at all, but makes clear that killing a fetus is a property crime, not murder).
He's spoken against democracy.
And the dangerous fuck doesn't believe in science. He things Noah's ark was a historical thing, and doesn't understand global warming.
While a lot of that doesn't differentiate him from a lot of the republicans, if it doesn't scare the shit out of we the people, they're not understanding.

He is an elected official, so the charge of being an election denier actually is nonsense
The bible does speak unequivocally, and it is 100% against the globohomo and abortion
Noah's ark is the reason you are alive to make fun of Noah's ark
Global warming is not understood
let's be clear
Global warming is not understood by ANYONE
this man is not scary to reasonable people LMAO

Yep. He's a bigger nutcase than a suitcase full of wallnuts.
If you're dumb as a rock you might think it's against homosexuality, because it reads a bit like that if you're ignorant of context.
It's 100% not against abortion.
As Christians once remembered: When the Roe decision was handed down, W. A. Criswell, pastor of First Baptist Church in Dallas and sometime president of the Southern Baptist Convention, issued a statement praising the ruling. “I have always felt that it was only after a child was born and had a life separate from its mother that it became an individual person,” Criswell declared, “and it has always, therefore, seemed to me that what is best for the mother and for the future should be allowed.”
Oh, for fuck's sake. There's 10 million species of insect alone on the earth. You can't flood the earth, there's not enough water. The story is obviously derived from the flood story in the epic of Gilgamesh. All the life on earth except for a genetic bottleneck of 2 individuals somewhere near the middle east didn't happen.
It's not fucking rocket science. If you increase the atmospheric concentration of greenhouse gasses, you increase the greenhouse effect.

Yeah, I use him to sharpen my rhetoric for the occasion when someone worth arguing with comes along
So he doesn’t accept your woke agenda. Great! He was a good pick

The "woke agenda" being Dominion voting is a Canadian company, nothing to do with Hugo Chávez?
That the bible doesn't say anything about abortion and that greenhouse gasses cause the greenhouse effect?
This is redefining "woke" as "not batshit crazy" isn't it?

methinks there will be THE MAGA TRIALS (like the Nuremberg trials for all the demlefy traitors)
History books will have "THE END OF THE DEMOCRAT PARTY" - something coming soon as these criminals/apologists become ever more arrogant and stupid.
