I bet another reason they feel comfortable carrying cash is how heavily armed the homogeneous populace is there.

No theory, I carry money, and I'm armed, it works for me, and I know it works for others. But whatever you want to think is your choice ;)

USA has more guns and more homogeneity but people there hardly use cash.

The cash economy in the US is large, and common; "is there a cash discount?".
