S/DETRANS IS INDEPENDENT FROM R/DETRANS
While born of the same purpose (to provide detransitioners free speech in a fair and respectful forum), r/detrans and s/detrans are somewhat independent. They exist on separate platforms, they operate under different rules, they are led by some different, some same moderators, and they are home to different subscribers.
ORIGIN STORY
In 2017, it was noticed that the subreddit r/detransition was quietly deleting all posts (https://archive.vn/2kWMf), the creator of that sub was deceased (https://archive.is/rr7sb), the other three moderators had become mods just hours after this death's announcement (https://archive.is/oA51m), and the new mods' profiles, histories, and activity showed bias against detransition. The mods were contacted, as were Reddit admins for violation of the sitewide "no camping" rule, to no reply.
At that point, the first-ever subreddit created and moderated by detransitioners was created, r/detrans. The newer subreddit sought to put detransitioners' rights, needs, and interests first, while respecting all viewpoints in a civil environment. Its subscriber base grew exponentionally (https://archive.vn/ZSAM7). As it grew, it faced mounting harassment, slurs, and smears from transition-only activists (https://archive.vn/7gL1o) who seek to "infiltrate" and "take over" subs (https://archive.vn/zjyuz).
In 2020, Reddit banned thousands of subreddits (https://archive.vn/5bVXN) without warning or recourse. Reddit admins were asked publicly and privately whether r/detrans was safe or needed to change any rules. Arguably, detransitioners should be protected by Reddit's "Rule 1" as a "marginalized or vulnerable group" (https://archive.vn/ojVJT). But the received answers were unclear (https://archive.vn/LsLrd). Days later, an attempt was made to seize the sub (https://archive.vn/ReKJ8).
In response to the uncertainty on Reddit, this subsaidit was created as a new and separate entity.
