I mean, Greece circa 2009 was about as close to the Weimar Republic as it gets.

No, it wasn't. We can't even imagine what the Great Depression was like.

Even worse when you consider the fact it was never as prosperous as pre-war Germany.

Life in Greece circa 2009 was much better than life in pre-war Germany.

Indifferent, even if true. No one in a crisis cares about a “suit and tie” image. It would be nice if groups like Golden Dawn wouldn’t get into military costumes and crap that bring the hammer down - but I’ll take setting up soup kitchens, morale building group activities, hardline ideological clarity and the ability to mobilize masses over “optics” any day.
