Things like race, sexuality, religion, appearance, etc. Things that you are as opposed to things that you do.

Okay. That's pretty good. So things that you can't change, that you're born with.

What do you think about affirmative action policies? I think it goes without saying that giving preference to one group necessitates discriminating against everyone else outside of that group, does it not?

Yes. Proponents of AA are usually pretty quick to acknowledge that it is racial discrimination. It's like when an athlete tampers with the ball. Sure, fixing it is still technically tampering with the ball, but it's just reversing a pervious injustice. Personally I see both sides of the argument.

So you are or are not okay with this form of discrimination?

Eh. No strong leaning.

In your OP you said

I posit that bigotry has an overall negative impact on society

But when it comes to discriminatory policies like affirmative action, all of a sudden you're milquetoast? Why the discrepancy? Are some forms of bigotry (discrimination) acceptable?

Yes. I can assume you're against cheating, right? Say you're playing football and you realize the guys playing before left the football deflated. Would you play the entire rest of the game with a deflated football just because fixing it would be tampering with the ball?

Okay, so you're not actually against bigotry (discrimination) in toto. You care whether someone's bigotry (discrimination) can be justified.

Sure, but you understand the difference between giving a disadvantaged group a handicap and giving your favorite group a special advantage, right?

Are all black people disadvantaged?

Are all white people advantaged?

So do you support discrimination against jews?
