Their outlook is evidenced by a March report from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). The CBO estimates that by 2054 public debt will represent 166% of GDP, reaching $141.1 trillion.

This assumes that the US GDP continues along at the rate it's historically been at. But if the economy tanks, what would make companies want to stay with the country if they can transfer their assets to a more cost competitive jurisdiction with a mouse click? The debt will always trend higher, but GDP does not carry that same guarantee.
