Is going to Mexico for a tummy tuck a cover story for running contraband?

Most likely.

I'm not going to say Mexico is safe. And well perhaps the cartels did fuck up and kill the wrong people. But it seems like it's entirely outside the cartels interests to kidnap random Americans and kill them as it is going to give them extra attention that makes their business difficult.

Similar to the case from Sonora a couple years back where some "random Mormon family" kids and all were murdered by a cartel. But go into the details and you find out this random Mormon family had emigrated to Mexico a couple years back from Colorado City area, aka bigamous pedo land. And the patriarch was having dealing and wheelings with the local cartel doing, something, unsure what.

Seems a lot less random after that.

Interesting. I hadn't heard any details about that case, other than the headlines.

FLDS essentially or a related splinter group. Not to excuse the cartel murder of the family but it's almost 100% certain that it wasn't a random attack but was in retaliation for something.

What that something was is open to speculation. I'd assume that someone was encroaching into the drug trade.

Mexico isn't safe but the way the media reports on it makes it seem a lot more dangerous than it actually is. I went during one of the "migrant invasions" and frankly it didn't look any different than a Los Angeles park. Bunch of people in tents sitting around homeless.

Regardless you don't want to fuck around. You'll die. But don't fuck around and you'll probably be fine with a medium of caution.

In these sorts of cases it's usually safe to assume the attacks aren't random.

Sometimes they'll kidnap rich people for the ransom money but again, killing your hostage and loosing your leverage isn't a good strategy.
