The officers were not following protocol and unnecessarily used excessive violence. While it was clear Floyd died of a drug overdose, he did so while in their custody, when they were responsible for his safety. They were responsible for getting him medical care if he was struggling from drug overdose. Their illegal and excessive violence surely contributed to his death.

It is a shame that it takes death and exaggerated politics to hold police accountable for their violent actions. It is a shame that the same people who hailed Floyd a hero, shit on the guy who was clearly executed point blank, while beading out in a puddle of his own blood from 4 other gun shots taken while running his fat ass away for his life in flip flops in Ferguson MO. It was only convenient for dirty politicians to side with Floyd for election manipulation and to sucker campaign donations from concerned people....before those same politicians blocked the Senate police reform bill, the only police reform bill, because it was submitted by a Black Republican Senator.

Floyd didn't die of a drug overdose. He may have had some residue of drugs in his system from taking drugs earlier in the day, but he was not high at the time and video of the arrest and murder conclusively shows he did not resist arrest. He died of positional asphyxiation due to being put in a stress position with two men holding him down and a third leaning with his full body weight on his neck.

His death may have been exacerbated by his drug habit, but what killed him was having his lungs compressed by a brutal cop who wanted him dead, not the drugs. When Officer Lane reported to Chauvin that Floyd had no pulse, he kept the choke hold going and refused to give him medical attention. After Floyd stopped breathing, Officer Lane twice asked Chauvin if they should move him into the recovery position, and Chauvin said no both times. Even after paramedics arrived and told Chauvin that Floyd had no pulse, he still held the choke hold on him for another minute, just to be sure.

After Chauvin went into cardiac arrest, and the paramedics requested emergency assistance from the fire department, none of the police cooperated with the fire crew, delaying them from reaching the ambulance and Floyd for a critical five minutes.

Chauvin murdered Floyd in cold blood, while three other officers stood by and let him do it. The cunt is lucky to have got away with mere "unintentional" second-degree murder.

In any case, under the well-established "eggshell skull rule", even if Floyd's heart and lungs were affected by drugs, that does not excuse Chauvin and the other cops for excessive force leading to unlawful killing.
