Great policy and we should follow suit. We should also be paying families (by tax break or otherwise, some kind of incentive) to have more children so we don't need to import foreign workers to work in these factories when they come home.

We need to bring back manufacturing base, If we don't do it now we'll be at odds if/when the war goes hot with China.

And medicine. The Chinese control 80% of that.

Plus almost all the chemical precursors.

Well, India produces a lot too.

I think the lack of PPE and medications was an eye opener for a lot of people. And China stepping in and stopping 3M from shipping their own inventory out of China hopefully made the rich fuck CEOs realize that although exploiting slave labour is nice for them, dealing with a totalitarian communist government still has enough downsides to maybe make them reconsider doing manufacturing there. While it's nice to hope they'll bring jobs back home, chances are better that India or Vietnam will be the next spots for them to setup shops.

I seriously hope that people realized that having our supply chains for critical goods inside a hostile entity was a bad fucking move. Of course they're probably just going to shift it to another country, if government throws out a mandate about china. I'd like to hope they'd pull them back home not just for the jobs but for the independence it would bring should supply lines be disrupted again.

And tax Chinese goods (and goods from other anti-American countries) so much that people are forced to buy American, or at the very least from our allies.

You don't need to pay people to have children. Just stop selling off the blooy land to foreign companies, and investors who want to make money off something society needs. How about a 300% tax? If you live in the country you get the normal price. You're from outside? Not a citizen? Not a resident? 300% tax.

Agree... but it's still so expensive to have kids now compared to the 70s when most families still had a single bread winner while mom stayed home and raised the young'uns. Fucking taxes on everything, taxes and fees have skyrocketed and so has inflation, owning a home to raise a family in is impossible unless you're a millionaire or unless you want to live in the middle of nowhere.

But billionaires won't make as much money if they can't exploit Chinese slave labor! Think of the American billionaires! /s

This is really what it comes down to. Big corps don't want to pay living wages, and they don't want to not be able to dump their industrial byproducts into the rivers without consequence.

Slavery never ended, it just got outsourced

At least Japan knows what's up. :P

Lol Japan and China have always hated each other, pretty much. They basically took turns trying to conquer each other for hundreds of years. They know how this works.

Japan had invaded the fuck out of china in WWII, they probably would now to take resources except the US still occupies Japan and China has nukes. At least Japan is trying to fight economically by getting companies out. Doubt $536 mill will be enough.

Yeah it's going to take tens of billions to really make a dent, but it's a good symbolic gesture to show they're serious
