The US Navy is unprepared. Period.

First

The lack of industrial bulk or in house mfg of anything resembling quality required items, from hull plating to artillery shells.

Second

The training on mechanical operations and a deep competency crisis wrought large is particularly severe in ocean going vessels.

And most recently

The forced woke agenda from the top, white male and/or straight purges, and then mass recruiting of those fundamentally incapable of being full military forces... and still drastically understaffed across the board.

All wrapped up with a bow for the WH and Deep State to make even more useless and attacked with their crazed world imperialism under gunboat diplomacy plans.

It looks like the age of the drone will render a lot of legacy platforms useless.

Surface ships have been sitting ducks in a real war for a long time now, as many ppl have pointed out. Drones certainly make them more vulnerable, especially to the 'death by a thousand cuts' tactic (exhausting their defences), but hypersonic missiles, such as the Chinese and Russians have, are indefensible against. And ordinary missiles would eventually score a hit too.
