After three years of fruitless bargaining, followed by an impasse declaration and mediation talks, the California Association of Professional Scientists will stage a rolling three-day strike Nov. 15-17, the union announced Thursday in an email to members.

Yeah for a supposedly pro labor state, Governor Newsom has screwed workers over.

There's another big issue. The government has not made science a career that is attractive to the next generation of individuals. That's a big problem for the US as China rises in science.

It doesn't help that as became clear during the pandemic you have to be willing to sell your soul to the powerbrokers if you want to have any kind of career. Remember the British scientist who was ready to testify along with Tess Lawrie about all the studies showing the efficacy of IVM who played it down in his testimony, telling Lawrie in a phone conversation she recorded that pressure had been brought to bear by the university where he worked, which had been threatened with the loss of grant money?
