"Controlled opposition?"

When did the likes of Rockefeller and Ford oppose the CIA? The CIA acts to protect "US interests abroad." Meaning the interests of people like Rockefellers, Fords, etc. Oil interests. Anti-socialism interests. And so on. And before them, the precursors of the CIA protected the interests of companies like Dole (aloha, y'all)

Elites had every reason to support the CIA, directly or indirectly and less than zero reason to oppose it, controlled or not.

This past year, 2016, while studying the liberal "new left" establishment, I sometimes ran across insiders to the liberal foundation network who were talking about working with "liberal CIA ... the best mafia you can deal with in the twentieth century" . Or you read about them appealing to the "enlightened men of the liberal internationalistic wing of the CIA who were willing to provide clandestine money to domestic progressive causes."

Subsequently, often from sources dating to later decades, I see these persons and their cliques flock around foundations as Rockefeller, Ford, Soros, Tides, Turner and others. Then I find that the first two of these foundations, along with the Carnegie Foundation and USAID, back in the 1950s and 1960s took over CIA financing of the important America-Africa Institute in order to prevent a potential kind of negative backlash.
