Sure, data shouldn't be ignored, generally speaking. What I don't understand is the hysteria surrounding all of this. Human civilization has survived such swings before and we can do so again.

It depends on what you mean by 'Human Civilization'. A bunch of broken people hanging on to life by their fingertips, living hand to mouth from whatever they can they can salvage from the wreckage of the modern world would count as a civilization. But it's not a civilization most of us would enjoy.

Yes, people survive, they always have - but history is full of the names of civilizations which existed in local areas and which no longer exist. The Incas, the Romans etc etc. The problem now is that arguably our present civilization occupies the entire globe.
