Once you've moved out of your teen and 20 something years, you begin to realize a vehicle is just a tool to transport your ass between points A and B and back again, as reliably as possible if function is more important than form when choosing your means of transportation.

Navigating a vehicle on the streets of America, clogged with tech addicted consumers reveling in their rolling consumer experience, with their crack cooling/bun warming seats and IMAX Theater dashboards, while having conversations on their surround sound audio system with all the important people, who need to discuss all the important things that are important to them, while scanning the navigation app guiding them to the same place they've driven to 50 times before, but might suggest an alternate route, depending on the traffic conditions caused by hundreds of other 'must have' tech distracted idiots, who will then follow their app into the new traffic congestion they created to avoid the traffic on their original route, is all the sensory experience I need while driving my Ludditemobile wherever I'm going.

An overpriced vehicle with all the modern conveniences nobody needs is not what I'm in the market for. I'll take my 96 F250 with 372,000 miles, rebuild it from the ground up, and still be money ahead of buying a modern brodozer that's uglier than a sack of buttholes.

To each their own I suppose, I just wish they'd enjoy their sensory experiences without driving them around and fucking up traffic...

Cars are mechanical conveyances, not fucking devices.

It sounds like it's more of a conveyance to me. The destination isn't the grocery store in his case.

Seriously, I don't need a fucking iPad instead of a dashboard. And I want my fucking ignition key back! Lol

But it seems like people are warming up to native operating systems, as long as they’re developed by Google and not the automaker. JD Power found that models that have Android Automotive with Google Automotive’s operating system, AAOS, “score higher in the infotainment category than those with no AAOS whatsoever.”

But here’s where things get kind of weird: AAOS without Google Automotive Services (GAS) receives the lowest scores for infotainment of the three categories. Google Automotive Services refers to all the apps and services that come with the car when Google is built into the car — also known as “Google built-in.” Ford, GM, and Volvo have all said they will use GAS for their current and upcoming vehicles. Meanwhile, some Stellantis vehicles use Android Automotive but partner with other tech companies for their app services, like Amazon.

That’s surely music to GM’s ears, which recently made the controversial decision to block access to CarPlay and Android Auto in its future EV lineup in favor of a native Google infotainment system. If people are telling JD Power they like cars with GAS, or Google built-in, that could work in GM’s favor, depending on how they choose to move forward. (bold mine)

I won’t buy any future cars from GM. I’m allergic to Google.

People are fed up with infotainment? And the fact that ‘big brother’ can listen to all your conversations? and that your vehicle can be stopped remotely anytime ‘big brother’ decides? How can that be?/s

These systems were originally envisioned for cars full of kids in need of something to keep them calm during commutes, also why the automakers started dropping the "commuter car" if favor of large SUV's.

But it turns out the people that can actually afford these fancy vehicles tend to be childless and use their cars for just driving. And the trends aren't looking any better with new cars pushing 6 figures and young professionals forgoing kids all together.

Gotta wonder who the idiots are cooking up these marketing strategies.

    Not quite.....

They are the Mom minivan pf the last 15 years,

    BUT

If they can afford that big SUV and Mom driving them to school or such,

Then each child has a handheld. iPad, NS, laptop, etc etc.

And today most kids have those at home and insist on dragging them with into the car.

Me? I want a nice, simple electric car like this 1916 Milburn Electric Coupe

How strange. Drivers don't like having distractions everywhere when they're trying to concentrate on driving.

Putting touch screens and "in-car infotainment" in a car is like putting a turd in a birthday cake.
