Following Hillary’s tarring of half the populace as “deplorables,” Dems have gone all in on weaponizing the judiciary, with the Espionage Act no less. Indictments have simply become a continuation of politics by other means, with apologies to von Clausewitz. There seems to be no recognition that this new weapon could be turned back on them, and soon. This is what comes from losing all perspective and declaring one’s opponents to be evil incarnate rather than fellow human beings with opposing views. Sure, a quick fix to mobilize your unthinking herds and distract from your own failings, but we all take a step closer to Armageddon as a result.

I'm watching the Duran and Robert Barnes (very long video) and Barnes characterizes the war on Trump as the Deep State/national security state trying to establish a precedent that they, and not the President - in whom the power of the Executive is solely vested under the Constitution - are the only ones who can decide what is Secret. He brings the issue back around to Assange's observation that it's those Secrets, withheld from the public, that enable governments around the world to do all the horrific things they do, or for that matter for a Deep State to exist at all.

One of the motions to dismiss brought by Trump's attorneys is on the grounds of disparate treatment wrt classified documents, compared to Joe Biden, of course; but also Hillary because of her private email server; Obama, who stored classified docs in an abandoned furniture store; Bush Jr. who stored them in an abandoned Chinese restaurant and permanently deleted over 20k documents before leaving the WH; Clinton, who stored transcripts of his secretly recorded conversations with foreign leaders in his sock drawer and took them with him; and Poppy Bush, who destroyed tens of thousands of documents from the Reagan administration when he came to the WH in 1989. None of these individuals were ever prosecuted, of course.

Prosecuting Trump for sloppy retention of classified documents is a joke when weighed against what others have done before him. None of our “leaders” follow the Federal Records Act or proper classified document procedures. Trump’s a dumpster fire in a lot of ways, but this is a purely political prosecution.

The thing is that they weren't classified documents. He de-classified them when he was still President as he was Constitutionally entitled to do. But your point is a good one and is (one of the) Constitutional grounds for a motion to dismiss, i.e., disparate prosecution. Former presidents who were not prosecuted include both Bushes, Bill Clinton and Obama. Then there's Biden who as Senator and then VP didn't have the authority to de-classify documents he collected during those tenures, and Hillary, who didn't have the authority to treat classified documents as unclassified via her private unsecured server. The fact they didn't get all hair-on-fire about that one alone corroborates your conclusion that this is a purely political prosecution.
