Autists will save the world.

Good video.

I had the same thought about calling a two-day blackout.

That's like calling a two day strike because of a pay cut. The employer, who expects to pay salaries forever (because they don't foresee going belly up) has no incentive to do a damned thing but wait.

If this is part of reddit readying itself for an IPO....

I immediately thought of the "one day buy-no-gas boycotts."

A strike comes to the attention of 100% of the workers at that place and 100% of management of that place. Not true of most boycotts or other demonstrations.

Also, no one works twice as hard the day(s) before or after a strike, whereas people expecting to boycott gas or food or whatever usually stock up in advance.

OT, but maybe the first demonstration that came to my attention via message boards well in advance, in enough time to make travel plans, reserve a room, etc. was Occupy Washington, D.C. It even had its own website.

I thought "Finally! Someone is doing it right." Then some guy went rogue on Wall Street a few weeks in advance. And the rest is history. The Washington demonstration got something like 54 attendees.

I've always wondered about that guy.

I was actually a part of SOPA and this was a part of it. Problem was that people didn't really know how to organize a black out and we're forced into moving a strike.

This shows that people didn't think this over enough and think about how to form a cohesive strike that was going to do far more than two days.

I probably could help organize something more effective but the mods kinda killed that. So for us, I want to say we can help organize a bigger strike and bring Reddit to its knees if people really want to organize with everyone to something meaningful.

The Stop Online Piracy Act?

Yep. A major component was in the fact that darkening the subs and other details was something that was pushed from below to point out to Hollywood how they'd break the internet.

Alexis Ohainan took to taking on Hollywood a bit and that helped Reddit in keeping the users they did. Now it's changed a bit with mods against admins.

Cool!

(my only other thought was "soup" in Spanish)

Spez is pivoting to porn. Spezzitors are degenerate addicts, they will switch to the official apps, and Spez will make boatloads of cash.

Fuck almost every platform anymore.

Remember when we thought the internet would be our salvation?

I believe it still is. It's just that meaningful change takes time, even lifetimes to measure. I mean, how long did it take for America to abolish chattel slavery? The end of corporate slavery may take even longer, but the stepping stones we lay down should serve our kids and their kids well in bringing about that "salvation" (I'm not religious, so I can't help but put it in quotes, and I believe the process toward societal and self-improvement is neverending).

To that end, each of us can help. I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but Saidit is not the final answer and will become the same tool of oppression that reddit is if given the chance. Support decentralization. Support third-party candidates, and more importantly, ideals. Use/support/donate to libre/foss censorship resistant projects. Switch to Linux. Use Monero. Use Tor. Use I2P. E2E encryption for private citizens. Demand total transparency from governing bodies. Call up your local eatery next time instead of flipping open UberEats. etc. etc.

You should turn this into a post, it's right up the alley of what members here are trying/wanting to do.

I'm not sure I possess the organization/eloquence/diligence to write something that doesn't waste too much of people's time. I'll try one of these days tho.

Yes actually I do. How disappointed I am now in my past naivety

Hope really is a drug, and one that induces paralysis to boot. (I was once put into a coma, with paralysis, via drugs in order to ensure my physical survival, which it obviously did. Don't try that at home, though. I was in the intensive care unit of a reputable hospital.)

I used to think that "Abandon all hope ye who enter here" was dark. Now, I see it as useful and productive. Once you stop hoping someone or something else will save you, you start figuring out how to save yourself --and, I hope, those around you.

    Example:

I wonder what server damage could be done by everyone constantly flipping the subreddit public-private status??

Even better... every quarter-hour ON the quarter-hour. All at the same time.
