my kid has been in swim lessons since he was literally an infant. if he fell in a pool at least i know even at a year old he could right himself and grab onto the wall at least for a short while. a lady came to my kids class to tell parents about silent drowning, her daughter was a teenager and on the school swim team and drowned during a swim practice within seconds and nobody noticed until it was too late. one coach can't watch over a dozen kids in a large pool all at once, always gotta keep an eye on your kid or make sure there are multiple adults around at all times.
