For acting it's probably not that big a deal. Having the entire women's category can be viewed as a form of correcting for sexism in viewing the qualifications of an actor. They don't really need 2 categories.
In sports it makes a huge deal and when there's an open category and they attribute the "first woman" to do the thing to a male. Like the first (and only?) "woman" who competed in professional league of legends escorts was actually a MtF who later intentionally ODd. Now if a real woman makes it, do they just not get to talk about it?
