While interesting, this is hardly surprising. Who else are you going to find at Columbia? I went to an expensive private college, so I know what it gets you. It doesn't necessarily get you a better education. What it gets you is the opportunity to network with the children of the rich and powerful so that you, too, can become rich and powerful down the line. I doubt these kids really care that much about Palestine. What they are doing is putting themselves out there as edgy or cool, in the pursuit of social status. You stand with the daughter of a UPS executive? Maybe she'll get you a job.
