Nah see the point of the justice system in cases like this, isn't to help the victim, can't help the victim. It isn't to punish or get revenge on the perpetrator.

The purpose is to remove the perpetrator from society entirely so they can't hurt anyone else ever again. It's very simple. Someone who gets high on Xanax and cuts off their infants penis, is a dangerous person whom might harm themselves or others if left free. Now that we know this person is dangerous we can remove them from society. So I think a death sentence is appropriate, and frankly more humane than making the person rot in prison for the rest of their life. 99 years in prison seems the sentence you go with if you hate the person. A merciful society would opt for a short drop and a quick stop.
