Its not a social contagion for men by the looks of it, for the most part that is.

Most likely its just expression of AGP or someone finally doing what they want to or pervs being pervs.

From what I understand the MTF rates are still fairly static, FTM rates however have jumped through the roof.

It's because all of society is going back to old-school gender roles in attempt to justify troon logic. Tomboys and ladyboys aren't accepted anymore.
