Honestly, I think it stems from cognitive dissonance. I think this person has formed what they thought was a reasonable position on the matter, without realizing that opinion was actually spoon-fed to them by literal groomers wanting to blur the lines.

Faced up against a hard-line position of “pedophilia is bad and should not be tolerated under any circumstances,” that makes their more liberal position inherently evil. And rightfully so.

Since the latter position is undeniably the correct one, they have to recognize on some level that theirs is not. But that would make them a bad person, and they can’t let themselves admit to that.

And thus, the bullshittery is born.
