It's projection. They vaguely sense that they are destroying themselves, but they cannot admit that so they create imaginary enemies and blame it on them.

I feel like it's the same thing as when heavy drug addicts develop paranoid theories about being watched/stalked etc.

That's drug induced psychosis. Mostly anyways. Drug task forces and surveillance are a thing.

For dealers, maybe. Nobody is "surveilling" crack addicts because they don't have interesting to say or do with themselves and it's a waste of time and money.

Same with troons. No one is going after them because nobody cares. They see things that aren't there because they can't process that the damage being done to them is their fault.

It's a waste to bust them, but addicts find dealers, it's definitely worth watching them.
