Most people in other countries don’t consider anyone born and/or raised in America as real insert particular ethnic/cultural group. For example, Americans who visit Ireland and pretend they have any actual connection to the country are mocked as plastic paddies.

Whenever an American tells me his Irish, I ask him where were his parents or grandparents came from. Unless at least one of them are Irish, then that yank is not Irish.

Closest relation is always like their grandfathers cousins neighbours friends dog. Cause it was an Irish wolfhound.
