I don't believe there is a goal. If there were they'd be acting in a more cohesive and effective manner. I think it's merely a strong belief in the general mantra of "you can be whatever you want go be no matter who you are" regardless of the rediculousness of that statement.

We are all restricted by the physical reality of the universe. I wish to be able to fly like the birds. A lofty dream and it is proper and good that we create flying machines that allow us to overcome our own physical limitations and achieve something that is beyond our own personal limited ability to experience what our ancestors could only dream of, yet if you decide the laws of physics don't apply to you and jump from your roof naked as the day you were born the Darwinian laws of survival will take precedence and crush your dream with indifference.
