i can't understand how someone could have the academic prowess and work ethic to make it to Harvard, only to then insist no one make them ever stressed or mildly uncomfortable.

Thinking you need academic prowess or work ethic to make it into Harvard nowadays was your first mistake

Harvard doesn't care about academic prowess in some cases -- if you or your family is rich or famous enough, they'll let you in even if you're a back-of-the-class coaster. This is what happened to Jazz Jennings.
