it's because it reminds them that in spite of all the things they've done to convince themselves of a delusion that they'll never really believe it.

their anger isn't at the person doing the 'misgendering', it's at reality for being unavoidable.

that's why they get SO mad. it's a deep, existential thing. they just don't realize that the solution is to embrace reality, not try even harder to deny it.
