Just looked High Guardian Spice up, I cannot believe anyone thought that that was a good idea. The Wikipedia article shows the problem with pandering to that demographic:

I mean it just looks like utter childish shit. I'm no big anime weeb but do people who watch anime watch it for this cutesy uwu shit? I thought the most popular anime are generally more gritty and violent weird stuff. Like Akira. Or Cowboy Bebop. Who the fuck wants to watch something that looks like a candy land fan fiction. Oh no King Candy and Lord Liquor are engaged tee hee hee.

Part of it's problem was it looks like a kid show but it's full of violence and gory so it didn't really appeal to anyone.
