Do people not know what synonyms are anymore? Has the education system in America really gotten so bad that we no longer understand basic rules of English?

Yes. A lot of Americans suck at geography. The education system in Europe is also terrible. Especially in Ireland, where there’s a lot of subtle but present neoliberal indoctrination and a lot of simping for the US establishment.
