I do think it depends, like the friend was encouraging them. I don't think that they'd've been that bad if it wasn't for the encouragement in the first place if that makes sense?

Obviously we don't know the full story but well if you're only being told "yass man they'll love you" by your 'support' network it's going to warp your reality a bit. There's a possibility without that they wouldn't be expecting it and so wouldn't be disappointed when the inevitable happens.

From what I remember the friend was encouraging them and saying that everyone would love them there. Common sense should tell you that that isn't likely but well, with how much lying is going on I can believe that they'd believe it.
