Frankly some communities need to be marginalized for the health of society as a whole. Pedophiles, revolutionaries, criminals, and yes also people with diseases both mental and otherwise.

We used to marginalize lepers and while it's not to say that justifies cruelty or otherwise diminishes the suffering they endured by having to live apart from society, it was necessary for the protection of society at large. Once medical advancements rendered the disease treatable there was no longer a need for marginalization. But that doesn't mean the disease is normalized or promoted.

The issue with trans people now is they have a kind of communicable social issue and while we should certainly view with empathy the suffering that is caused by believing you are in the wrong body and the other implications of disphoria we should not be promoting the full adoption and lifestyle changes these people want in the public sphere. That's a kind of discussion that needs to happen between them and a professional therapist with their best interests in mind. It's not something that should be politicized as it is nor is it something that the amoral capitalistic medical lobby get their talons into as they'll always choose the drugs and surgery option as it creates lifetime patients and profits for them.
