I'd say it was right after the SCOTUS allowed gay marriage that this went full on crazy.

I hate to say it, I really do. but I cannot deny the slippery slope since the federal legalization of same-sex marriage within the US.

It's basically a case of a predatory movement who've been biding their time and saw the post 2015 landscape as the perfect opportunity to take advantage of existing infrastructure to push their goals. Really the charities whose main goals were previously getting gay marriage over the line as the last major block to equality should have ceased to exist once it was realised. But too many people's livelihoods were at stake for that (by which I mean too many gala dinners were at stake), so they needed to find a new purpose to keep the money rolling in. And so the trans crowd rolled in, convincing them it was the next civil rights struggle and definitely not a group of mostly straight crossdressing men

Nowadays it's mostly a group of young girls trying to fit in.
