Interesting idea, I'll bet it could be implemented in a better way though. Maybe make the thing they're purportedly researching closer to the actual event.

Agreed. Greedy people will give up on Ruby Ridge when there are no gems. The eco-activists might be converted to truth-seeking and historical revisionism, as I have. But this wouldn't have hooked me then.
