The first book was groundbreaking and certainly not boring, the subsequent books not so much. If you are interested in the movie then I would recommend the (first) book for all sorts of reasons, not the least of which is it's a good read.

Agreed. It's really worth the read. If you like that then the rest are good too, but less unique, just grander.
