You could also contact the mod(s) of said subs and ask to be made a moderator as well, if that's so important for you.

Creating a sub means you care about the topic and most likely that you are somewhat of an expert on it. It does not imply that you should be the main poster however.

Many subs, including my national sub are moderated by dormant accounts. I've contacted 4 accounts over a month ago, and none have responded.

You can make a [same_name]2 sub.
