Old news, but I still don't know where I stand on this issue. I guess card only places could be used as a way to keep certain demographics out, but aren't there a million legal ways establishments do this anyway? From what I recall, it was a trendy looking coffee shop and sweetgreen that were doing it. Neither were places I expect homeless people to be choosing when they find money for coffee or a meal.

I'm in favor of affordable housing. I think in an ideal society, if you work 40 hours a week, you should be able to afford a living space without roommates and to feed yourself. But this seems like it would ensure there are no truly nice neighborhoods because a minimum of one in five residents will be impoverished.

high rents and high property taxes suck but they do keep the riff raff out. And if someone gets 40% of the median income they're probably going to trash an apartment and not pay rent

Lawmakers and supporters of the bill argue that banning cash in stores and restaurants is classist and discriminates against minority groups of people, like senior citizens and the homeless.

Because remember folks, senior citizens are too stupid to know how to get a debit card. And homeless are definitely customers of restaurants.

Whatever happened to letting businesses making the choice? If they want to exclude paying customers, they should be their choice.
