I think there was an intentional effort to create the industrial and technological infrastructure to control people in mass. It's amazing how people can be fooled into following the values of pop culture so easily. It almost seems like a magic that would have been totally impossible in the old days...
It's a shame because I think technology could have been used for so much more and I think it has the power to help people reach their true potential. I believe this should be one of the most basic ethics behind any nationalist group.
Society nowadays seems like a much more insane version of what Kierkegaard described was destroying society back in his days and how a reflective age can corrupt people's ethics and the religious way of life. People in a reflective age are "frozen" by envy and passionate people who try to take action become objects of ridicule by the massess. They are helped in this fashion by the media that also keep their attention in fantasies and hedonistic pleasure.
The truth is that society, according to Kierkegaard, could only be saved by the hero figure after being corrupted, despite the popular believe that change in society could only come from a concentrated effort from the people that are part of that certain group. It has actually become the only means of salvation.
