Agreed.
I don't do games, so I don't know what I missed. The show was okay, like The Queen's Gambit. Drinker has been elevating okay to great, because there's simply not much great. Not an excuse.

The Drinker is losing his edge, I'm afraid. And no he doesn't get to justify what they did to the TV show by calling it an adaptation. Too many important beats from the game were changed and the show is not the same except for the broadest strokes. Joel was not a gruff, hurting, bad ass except for a few times when the show remembered it from the game and shoehorned it into a scene where, frankly, it felt out of place. Ellie constantly upstaged him and was an insufferable twat besides. And girl bosses... so. many. girl. bosses.

The nuanced, tightly written, emotionally weighty plot from the game was replaced by mostly boiler plate "the world is ending" drama that we've all seen a million times before. With the occasional zombie. Very occasional.

I signed out after the 3rd episode because a "Fagotry is great" episode was the last thing a show that was already teetering needed. But after watching Drinker's review I went back see the remaining episodes. Nope they did not redeem the show.

Agreed.
Hard science-fiction = no magic, no monsters, no messed up physics.

Star Wars for grown-ups. What I love most about it? No Jedi, lightsabers or force.

I knew this film was a classic but I had never seen it. When I saw it was available on Netflix I decided to check it out and I'm glad I did. Three and a half hours of underwater anguish. One of the best war films IMO. I'll have to put Battleship Potemkin on my bucket list; a classic soviet silent-era film.

How was Color Out Of Space?

Pretty good actually. I'd recommend it.

How was Color Out Of Space? Looks like it could be semi-interesting or semi-flushable.

That's a terrible T-Mobile ad. They would have done better to green screen their shitty "lab" and do it in CG. I did a bunch of T-Mobile ads 16 years ago when some ads were still good - in my case none of the T-Mobile ads I worked on were memorable, unless it was the ones with James Earl Jones. All those phone commercials blended together back then. We'd have clients come in and half our animators would have to turn off their monitors and take a lunch because they were working on the competitors' spots.

This one reminded me of Color out of Space which reminded me of this T-Mobile ad

Yes, it's a dumb yet interesting movie.

For lack of anything better to explain the many questions, for fun you could attach the alien glimmer phenomenon to that of propaganda, distorted reality, and the effects of brainwashing and social engineering - like many on my list of dystopian movies:
