The post is not necessarily entirely accurate. Not everyone disregards the contradicting evidence. It is one of many options an individual can choose from. The disregarding part comes mainly due to one's stubbornness or narrow-mindedness.

The concept was developed in the 1950s by American psychologist Leon Festinger and became a major point of discussion and research.

Cognitive dissonance can be an opportunity for growth. Exactly how we choose to resolve the dissonance and its accompanying discomfort can be a reflection of our mental health
