The advertisements on reddit are so blatant as well.
"Hey reddit, what's your go-to brand that you can always trust?"
60k upvotes with multiple medals and thousands of replies, front page immediately. Meanwhile some amateur artist tries to self promote and they're seen as sellouts/insincere. Just right now there's this ad made to look like a genuine post.
