I'm afraid of engineered structures like bridges and buildings, not even particularly tall ones although ESPECIALLY particularly tall ones. It's not a dehabilitating fear - I'm in a building right now - but it's something I think about daily. Using a high bridge or overpass can get me especially white knuckled though.

Every time you cross a bridge or stand in a building or any structure that will kill you if it suddenly fails, you're creating a chain of trust - trust that those who designed it knew what they were doing and did not cut corners, trust those who made the materials to build it knew what they were doing and did not cut corners, trust that those who built it knew what they were doing and did not cut corners, trust that those who inspected it throughout the years for maintenance and code violations knew what they were doing and did not cut corners, trust that those who designed the inspections to violate knew what they were doing and did not cut corners, trust that those who were hired to fix any violations or degradation knew what they doing and did not cut corners, etc. I briefly dated an engineer and she told me I was not exactly wrong to be worried about this.

Anyway, I think bridge collapses are going to become more and more common.
