Marx literally thought late stage capital was happening during his lifetime.

Frederic Jameson used the term in a book title way back in the early 1990s. He found it necessary to clarify in the foreword that he did not mean "late" as in "dead." The fact that such a clarification would be necessary says something about the intelligence levels of Marxists and "critical theorists."
