I don't know if i'm allowed to say this, but i always felt sad (not pity) for the yaoi gendies and hsts's.

I feel bad for HSTS, if gender identity disorder is a real thing then that's gotta suck. If it doesn't exist, then being that much of a self hating gay man/lesbian also sucks.

I was in Tumblr for a long time, since 2014 if i'm remembering correctly.

I can tell, based off of your user. That album was crazy popular back then, haha.

If you were on tumblr when the "glorification" of gay men were ongoing, with mood / stimboards, kiss scenes, shipping wars, you'd understand it.

Weirdly enough, I was. I actually joined a couple years earlier than you did. For me, that glorification seemed to stem from fetishization, rather than reverence in most users I saw. Same as the girls who were on DeviantArt and talking about nosebleeds from teh hawt yaoiz a couple years prior. Tumblr was a massive platform for teen girls at the time though, it's conceivable that we were exposed to two different groups of girls.

Gays were thoughtful, caring, passionate and all that good traits,

I'm a little confused about how they came to these conclusions, haha. Most yaoi I've seen, like the Japanese stuff, is more abusive than the average heterosexual relationship. I can think of a handful of titles that vividly feature rape right off the top of my head. That was the year Dramatical Murder was popular and that game is just gay rape porn. I read/watched a lot of yaoi when I was young because I thought that yuri was exclusively pornographic, and I wanted to see same sex relationships even if they weren't my sex. I had to stop reading/watching multiple series because of the blatant coercion/rape they showed.

As for the shipping side of things, the majority of those men/boys were not gay in canon. So, all of their homosexual interactions were written by other girls and everyone knew this. It's funny, what they really wanted in a man was a woman's perspective in a man's body.

I have a female friend that thinks gay men live like the manu rios couple in elite because she only consumes netflix content.

Netflix content is really weird.

This still does not justify all the tricks they pulled off however

Yeah, this is where any sympathy I have wanes. Auto-homosexuals have gotten more and more into the idea of rape by deception as time has gone on. They're generally not as bad as AGPs yet but they're trending in that direction.

I was talking mostly about the media there, rather than yaoi. Stuff like Glee, Modern Family, Destiel, Remus / Sirius, Drarry, Stiles / Derek etc. It was a time that networks tried their best to show optimism, and also because they did not want to draw criticism due to 'stereotyping' gay people. I was more involved with shipping, as I was like #1 Stucky shipper. I miss 2015 - 2016 as the glory days of gay activism, with marriage equality and relatively small number of gendie talk. I remember the hashtag #givecaptainamericaaboyfriend and even though i had the two brain cells to realise it was never going to happen, i cherish the memory of millions of tweets by all the gay people across the world. Sometimes i do wish we could turn back time.

So much hope i have lost on gay rights, but the battle goes on.
