There were some good replies on there.

Overall, I think gender is an attempt to turn what used to be called "personality" into a civil rights category. So if someone doesn't like your personality, they are now oppressive bigots.

That's so true and sort of explains why young people especially girls like it. Back in the dark ages when I was a teen girl I couldn't get enough of those daft personality quizzes in magazines like Just Seventeen and Mizz. It's proper self absorbed, navel gazing stuff but also probably part of growing up and figuring yourself out. I just wish this 21st century version wasn't so harmful.

It also just goes to show how much of the conversation is being controlled from above. AGB doesn't have an active moderator so the upvote / downvote system does the work. All the other subreddits are so carefully stage managed.

I died a little seeing all the comments using male and female to refer to gender. Male and female are biological sex, man and woman have been coopted to mean gender so a trans man can be a trans man, but never a trans male because she is female and humans cannot change sex. When we play their language games, we lose from the start because we wind up talking past each other or conceding to their warped language on sex and gender.
